The eGovernment Knowledge Platform (eGov-KP) - In March 2004 Business Information
System began collaborating with the Irish Government Department of Marine Communications
and Natural Resources (DCMNR) on an enterprise knowledge management system. This
university/government collaboration resulted in the release of the eGovernment Knowledge
Platform (eGovKP) Version 1 in September 2004. eGovKP is an extensible, standards-based,
Intranet application, with a Web-based user interface.
The purpose of this application is to allow people to capture, store, edit, and
view their explicit and tacit knowledge and expertise as Knowledge Resources. eGovKP
also provides functionality which allows it to communicate with, and provide links
to, organisational databases and other systems that people work with to inform their
daily activities. May 2005 saw the release of version 2.0, under the name DCMNR
Knowledge Management System (KMS). Version 2.8.9 of the systems is currently undergoing
testing and deployment in two departmental divisions.
