BIS Acceptable Usage Policy |
|
|
Providing an efficient and reliable computing and networking service depends on
the cooperation of all users.
It is therefore important that you are aware of your
responsibilities to other users and to the providers of services.
You must use the
resources in a responsible manner and you must respect the integrity of computer
systems, networks and data to which you have access, and follow any rules and regulations
governing their use.
In particular you are not permitted to:
Engage in activities
which waste resources (people, networks, computers);
Engage in activities which
are liable to cause a disruption or denial of service to other users;
Use computer
or network resources to access or distribute offensive or obscene material;
Use
computer or network resources for any activities which contravene the laws of the
State, or of the destination country in the case of data being transmitted abroad;
Use computer or network resources for commercial activities which are not a part
of your work in UCC;
Infringe copyright or the proprietary rights of software;
Share
userIDs or usernames, transfer them to other users, or divulge your passwords to
other users.
Notes
- While network traffic will not normally be monitored,
it may be necessary to do so if there is reason to suspect that this Acceptable
Usage Policy is being breached, or for the purposes of backup or problem-solving.
You must therefore be aware that such monitoring may occur.
- Where you knowingly
access chargeable services (eg commercial online databases etc) you and/or your
department will be liable for any charges incurred.
- This Acceptable Usage Policy
is reviewed from time to time and any new regulations must be observed by all users.
Failure to comply with these regulations will result in the service being withdrawn.
- The attention of all network users is drawn to the fact that attempts at hacking
across networks may result in criminal prosecution here or elsewhere.
Close Circuit
Television Cameras are in operation in all computer labs.
Penalties
for Abuse of the Computer Facilities
Any abuse of the computer facilities, by a
student, will result in the computer privileges of that student being withdrawn
for a period of time determined by the Systems Administrator Manager or Systems
Administrator.
This results in a student being unable to log onto any computer in
the department labs for class use, tutorial use, personal email/internet use and
project use for the given period of time.
